Sleep-Deprived Ramblings
I am a champion sleeper, if such a thing exists.
9-12:30
Then I was up, showering, debating lunch.
2:30-6:15
I will likely fall asleep around 10 tonight and sleep without issue until 7:30 tomorrow morning.
Bliss
Bliss is…tumbling into bed after 27 hours awake, 24 hours straight of work (Note: not my longest - my record is 32 hours) after a hard-working month on internal medicine. The feeling of having turned over my pager and my patients to another provider, of starting tomorrow in a different department with no obligations between now and then is perfect and allows me to sleep better than I have in weeks!
Nap time after 24 hours of work!
So many new, lovely followers! Sorry I’ve been so silent. Working every 4th night overnight (and half the next day) takes its toll! Thankfully, though, the medicine service here has welcomed me with open arms and treated me as one of their own for the duration. They really are a phenomenal group and it’s truly been a privilege to work with them. In medicine we often refer to “the days of the giants” and by this time I’m sure we’ve all seen the tagline for Google Scholar - “Stand on the shoulders of giants.” I truly feel like this place is the intersection of these two - a place where the history of medicine and the cutting edge come together.
If you hold your breath waiting for something to go wrong, does it become a self-fulfilling prophecy?
Ever feel like you are afraid to acknowledge how well things are going because it might end? That’s how I feel right now.
